One Moisturizer that’s Not Worth the Splurge

Trader Joe’s has a variety of beauty products and the three that I had tried prior to this facial moisturizer, I absolutely loved! Their facial cleanser is amazing, does a great job at cleansing my skin without drying it out. Their pumpkin body butter and coconut body butter smell heavenly and moisturize my skin without any greasy residue. Since I loved these beauty products I thought for sure I would love their moisturizer too.

The bottle is made of plastic and has a very easy to use the pump. I like the nozzle of the pump because it’s wider than the typical one you would find on lotion. I didn’t have any problems with the pump becoming clogged. There is also a locking mechanism on the pump so that it can’t be accidentally pushed which could result in waste of the moisturizer. A real plus if you decide to take it with you while traveling.

The moisturizer is paraben-free, fragrance-free and cruelty-free. I do love Trader Joe’s products because they are cruelty free and it is clearly stated on their packaging. Another feature I like about it is that it is dermatologist formulated which provides confidence in the quality of the product.

The moisturizer is fragrance-free however it does have a slight scent to it. It’s not unpleasant but you can smell it. The moisturizer has a light, creamy, lotion-like texture to it. It’s not heavy or thick but I could feel a thin layer sitting on my skin. Where as other moisturizers I’ve tried thoroughly absorbed into my skin.

On the packaging it states that this product is for all skin types. I have a somewhat oily T-zone and normally the rest of my face will run a bit dry so I thought this would provide a balance to my skin. I believed since it is an oil-free moisturizer that it would prevent my pores from becoming clogged. I was wrong. I quickly found that after only a few uses that my skin began to breakout after each use. I was surprised and frankly disappointed. The areas that are normally dry on my face began to breakout after applying the moisturizer to them. It may not be oil that’s clogging my pores but there is something in the moisturizer that causes breakouts.

My experience with it hasn’t been the best and I wouldn’t recommend it based on how my skin reacted. The 6 oz bottle is sold exclusively at Trader Joe’s for $5.99.

I’m going to stick with the other beauty products that I have purchased from Trader Joe’s. One disappointment out of four products is not enough to deter me from trying other beauty products at Trader Joe’s.
