The Best & the Worst Brands of Essential Oils

Spread the love
Essential oils can be used in an oil diffuser to freshen up the air as well as for therapeutic purposes. I only used the oils in an oil diffuser since I am very cautious about what I apply to my body. So I can’t speak to how effective they are when used for therapeutic purposes. My evaluation is based on the longevity of the oils and whether or not the scents are pleasant.

Note: I received each essential oil for free in exchange for unbiased reviews.

I tried three brands and had one clear winner for the best quality and best smelling essential oils.

The first brand that I tried was the Radha brand specifically the Rest & Relax, Four Thieves, Breathe Easy, Stress-Free, Pure Healing and Happy Citrus oils. My first impression was wow, they are incredibly pungent. All of them were very strong and overwhelming. I opened the box where the oils were tightly packed inside and the combination of all the scents together nearly knocked me off my feet. They each were very strong but not pleasant. I was not impressed with the scents. I did give each a try in the oil diffuser since I wanted to critique each one based on their individual scents. I was very sorry that I did that. I’m not sure if it was the scent or the quality of the oils, either way the room took a very long time to air out since the stench had gotten into the curtains. The oil diffuser itself needed to be thoroughly cleaned and aired out for weeks before I was able to get the stench out of it. It was so bad I thought I was going to have to replace the diffuser, fortunately the smell eventually faded with time. Even the Happy Citrus did not leave me very happy. The set is currently unavailable on Amazon.

The second brand I tried was the Zellous essential oils set which included Lavender, Sweet Orange, Peppermint, Lemon Grass, Tea Tree and Eucalyptus. This brand initially did not knock me over so it started off better than the previous brand. The oils from this brand smelled better but each oil has a chemical smell to them. Even though there was a hint of the desired scent, there was an overwhelming chemical smell that detracted from the quality and authenticity of the scents. Instead of smelling Sweet Orange, I smelled more of a chemical smell with an added hint of orange. Quite disappointed but felt like it was a step up from the Radha brand. The set sells for $13.95 on Amazon for 6 (10ml) bottles gift box.

The third brand I tried was Plant Guru. The 10ml bottles are sold individually so you’re able to buy the scents that you want most as opposed to the previous two that came with some unwanted scents within the sets. The oils from the beginning were fresh, authentic, free from any chemical smells and quite refreshing. I will say that I do have my favorite scents like Citrus BlastCinnamon BarkTangerineSweet Orange and Peppermint. The two scents that have a very clean scent but aren’t necessarily my favorite are the Tea Tree and the Breathe. Each of the scents are true to their names, the Cinnamon Bark smells just like cinnamon and the Tangerine & Citrus Blast smell just like oranges and tangerines. I love the fresh, authentic scents of the essential oils. They bring a fresh scent to the air while being diffused in the oil diffuser. The oils range in price anywhere from $5.99 to $9.99 each on Amazon.

In this particular case, the saying “you get what you pay for” rings true. You’re likely to receive better quality oils if you’re willing to pay a little extra money. The price for the Plant Guru brand of oils is a little high for a 10ml bottle however taking into consideration the amount that you’ll need to fill your room is minimal which results in the oil lasting for several months.

I have learned that not all essential oils are created equally and just because it says, “100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils” does not mean that they are going to smell authentic and natural.
